Have you ever felt like the Lord was listening, but choose not to answer you? That He put someone else’s needs before yours, because how can He simply put your needs before 7.8 billion people?
I have lived close to the beach all of my life. My house is built next to the water with sand between my toes within walking distance. The beach is spectacular! It’s beautiful, it’s mysterious, but if I’m being honest- I used to take it for granted. Yea, it’s just the beach.. I see it all the time.
The Lord sees you every day, yet He still looks at you in awe. He doesn’t look at you and say: Oh, its just one of my children but rather He delights in you and your requests!
“And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.” (1 John 5:14).
If you believe this to be true, then why do you doubt that He puts you first?
The truth is, the Lord delights in hearing from us because He needs us. He needs you and I, just as we hopelessly need Him. He doesn’t have to need us, but He loves us so much that He achingly longs for us to know Him. The Creator of the world desperately loves you and me.
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself” (Jeremiah 31:3).
Reality is that it’s easy to let the world inside our hearts and let the image of His love for us become altered. The result is a hardened heart. The answer? Resting in the presence and glory of who He is. Rest is not only defined as sleep, it’s meditating on the Lord and allowing your mind to dream and talk to the One who hears you. The result? A softened heart, capable of feeling the extent of His love.
“…And that time [to rest] is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted ‘Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts’” (Hebrews 4:7).
Have assurance my friends. He is a God who listens, no matter how many people breathe the same air as you do. In the moments of doubt, may we trust in the knowledge that He is always there.
“Blessed are you, darling daughter. How treasured is your faith for Him- the physically unseen Savior yet seen in and through all things, if we take the time to acknowledge it” (John 20:29).
May we trust in the knowledge that He is crafting something bigger and better for us then our prayers of immediate satisfaction will reveal.
“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue Him from death. And God heard his prayers because of this deep reverence for God” (Hebrews 5:7).
Even Jesus cried out to the Lord in need. Even Jesus, a man who came to this world amongst us as flesh (John 1:14), wept. And here in this moment, God choose not to answer Jesus’ request. Why? Because God saw the bigger picture- God saw the redemption Jesus would bring you and me. God saw that through His Son, the sin between Him and us would be eternally erased, allowing us the capability to talk to Him and feel the depth of His love.
Let us continuously look to the Lord in awe. Through rest and knowing Him, let our requests be made from the depth of our love and respect for Him, and may the knowledge and peace that He hears us, and puts us first, ring true in our hearts.
