salt + light

Two very important elements, our world would not be the same without either. But more than just components of our daily lives, these two essentials can go beyond tangibility. They are applicable to living everyday for our Father, creator of salt, light, and all things.

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." Matthew 5:13

Salt is one of the most effective and readily available substances in the world. Used in the kitchen, for cleaning, and for health purposes, we are similar to salt. Each of us has been created, as a daughter of the one true King, with unique purposes that only we can fulfill. We are an individual flavor, a zest, - to salt ourselves and season the world. Although this doesn't necessarily mean fame and fortune, God desires for us to seek His purpose for our lives. WE are the salt of the earth; and it isn't a one time commitment, but today and everyday.

The world seems to be a little dark lately. Headlines broadcast news of recent deaths or depressing political issues and honestly, people are losing hope. But John 1:5 reminds us of a powerful truth:

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Darkness can never increase, because it is the absence of light. Darkness only appears where light is not. Our job, as Christ followers and Kingdom Builders, is to be the salt and light of this world. We must be witnesses towards others and shed light on the darkened areas of our world.

The good news about light is that ordinary people are drawn to it; and the enemy is repelled by it. Our Father's light is love, and we cannot spread our light if we despise our neighbors. this past election and the news cycle currently includes a lot of hate. There is far more diversity in this world than ever before, yet there is still seclusion and hate. So how do we combat this hate?

The most effective evangelism is love. When we spread our light, we spread love. God longs for us to love others, no matter our differing of opinions or physical appearance.

See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Luke 11:35

If there is darkness in the world, and we, as Christ followers and Kingdom Builders, are given this light for free, why would we not want to go share it?

Let's go add salt and light up the world for the glory of our Creator!
