Woven With Gold
This past weekend I was at a Bible study where the people there prayed over me- I was terrified as I had never had anyone pray over me like that, let alone a group that I was new to. Little did I know that the words spoken to me would be so sweet and life-giving, like honey to the soul (Proverbs 16:24).
What struck me most was someone looking at me and saying, “When God knit you together in the womb, he sewed you with gold,” referring to Psalm 139:13. I felt the powerful grip of those words and how true they rang. Not, just for me, but for all of us.
We are made with gold, our lives are woven with it and it’s where our inner strength and resilience comes from. It’s why when the fires of life surround us, we may be burned and feel their hot pain, but we will never be destroyed. What we can’t see in the midst of that pain is that the fires are refining us.
When gold is being shaped and molded it is put through fire, but it comes out with more purity and is more reflective. It’s the same with us. God doesn’t let us face the fire to be burned, but rather because He knows that hardship shapes us, it molds us, and it makes us more like Him through the tough lessons it teaches us. And a goldsmith doesn’t walk away and just leave the gold there to burn, it’s a hands-on process filled with purpose, intentionality, and shaping. Just as we were hand-created with gold, he molds us by hand as well. He would never allow us to go through hardship and then walk away.
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold- though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” // 1 Peter 1:7
As you face obstacles and trials I hope that you can remember your inner gold. You are radiant and resilient. The fires in your life will never destroy you, but they will refine your golden heart, and strip away the impurities in it. You will walk away victorious, shining more brightly than ever and more reflective of Christ. You were woven together with gold, you were meant to shine brightly.
Ashley // @ayyhawk
Hi- I’m Ashley, but feel free to call me A-hawk! I grew up in South Carolina but moved to Malibu a few years ago to attend Pepperdine University. In a total God-move, with little inspiration from Legally Blonde & Love Does by Bob Goff, I will be staying here to go to law school in the fall. I’m obsessed with country music and hope to one day be a music attorney in Nashville! My favorite things include a good nap, beach bonfires, worship nights, talking with friends about Jesus, and Chick-fil-a. My favorite thing about the gospel is the beauty it finds in brokenness and I cannot wait to share that with y’all!
