Advice On How To Love Others
If you read my last blogpost, you can probably tell I’m pretty clingy. I don’t usually fall for guys, but when I do I fall hard. I either practically fall in love after the first date or never want to see them again. My feelings are only extremes there is no in between for me. This can make moving on really difficult because it takes me a really long time to find someone I like as much. That’s why when I saw quotes from Heidi Priebe’s book “This Is Me Letting You Go” I knew I had to buy it. I went to a local bookstore, then called several more, then ended up ordering it online and having to wait a month before I finally got a copy. It was quite an ordeal, but I’m so happy I didn’t give up because it is a really amazing book.
As you might be able to guess from the title the book focuses pretty heavily on relationships. However, there is also some really solid life advice in there and I highly recommend everyone read it. If you’re a Christian you’re probably pretty into making others feel loved and this book provides insight on how to do that in unique ways.
Every chapter is a short essay (only a few pages) on a different topic Heidi gives advice on. I don’t want to spoil it but here are some of my favorite topics covered in this book!
- 14 Things It’s Time You Forgave Yourself For: Forgiveness is hard, but it’s important. Forgiving yourself can be harder than forgiving anyone because you probably have higher standards for yourself than you do for other people. Whatever you did, it’s okay and you should forgive yourself. If God can forgive your sins you can too.
- Just Be The One Who Cares More: This is my favorite piece of advice from the book. Don’t treat others how you want to be treated. Treat them even better than you want to be treated. Go the extra mile and be the better person even when it’s hard. Just love with all your heart.
- How To Love Someone You Cannot Hold Onto: College is a time when you’re meeting a ton of new people, but not all of these people will be in your life forever. Love people forever and wish them the best even when they leave you.
