Begin to Turn North
In the book of Deuteronomy, we read about how the people of Israel were wandering in a desert with what seemed to be no end in sight. Their reluctant hearts and souls that had yet to be surrendered, kept them in bondage for 40 years! God had the promise land in mind, but because of their endless and aimless circling, they became stuck.
Then, God spoke to them in Deuteronomy 2:2-3 and said,
“You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.”
We are all stuck in some sort of endless and aimless circling pattern. Whether it’s with our family, relationships, friends, career, faith, money, fitness, etc… We all need to make the decision at some point in our lives and say enough is enough and turn north! It’s time for our situation to stop defining us and start refining us. It’s time for us to make and embrace the change we want to see.
So how do we begin to turn north you ask?
I have found 5 practical steps that worked for my life:
1.) Replace the enemies lies with God’s truth
2.) Find community and be real with them
3.) Begin serving at your home church
4.) Create and keep your personal time with God
5.) Have mentors that keep you accountable
As I was praying before writing this blog, God gave me such a crystal clear image of a woman walking down a path headed south, struggling to keep her balance and crying in desperate need of a change. When all along there were signs, people and new paths giving her opportunities for change. But because she kept her head down and continued to walk the path she was already on, she never changed her direction.
We could all probably relate to this, feeling like we are at a point in our lives asking ourselves "How did I get here, I've been here for too long and how do I get out of here?" I have learned that small positive steps over a period of time in the right direction create change, so don’t become frustrated if it takes longer than expected. Just focus on the controllable and surrender the outcome. One small change could completely reroute your life in such a positive manor if we let it and if we look up for it. So daughter, pick up your head, delight in the Lord and begin to turn north.
You’ve got this, take it one step at a time!
