My START A DELIGHT Story - Kennesaw State University
For week 2 of our Start a Delight series, we are excited to share how our amazing Delight leader, Hannah Dover, started the Delight chapter at Kennesaw State University. Since spearheading the launch of Delight at KSU this spring, Hannah and her co-leaders have already seen the amazing power of God move in Delight and on her campus. We hope you are so encouraged and inspired by her story!
Q: HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO START A DELIGHT CHAPTER? TELL ME THE STORY OF HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED!
A: My HS friend Sarah [Delight leader at the University of West Georgia] reached out to me and told me to start Delight on my campus. I spent the whole year searching and hopped around to every campus ministry but I was in that point of my faith where I felt God had something in store for me. I knew I needed stronger relationships with women — I was really good at surface level friendships and I knew I needed more… went to Delight’s website and clicked for more info. I thought I’d just click submit for info and that I wouldn’t need to commit but I dove head first.
The Holy Spirit pushed me and immediately I felt, “I’m not qualified, my faith isn’t strong enough to lead.” The more unqualified you feel the more dependent you’ll be on Him and that’s all that matters.
Q: HOW DID YOU FIND OTHER WOMEN TO LEAD WITH YOU?
A: I reached out to all of my best friends and they all said no, and praise the Lord because it was all because of God. In that God brought together a diverse, solid group of girls. Last year KSU tried to start and it failed. Second time around, Natalie [leader], was asked again. It started with a leadership team of three. God had called on every one of the leaders individually and [we] were feeling the tug and… each of us took the plunge and were obedient to God’s call. He brought us together.
We all [thought], “I’m not qualified, this is too much, who will lead?” You say no to the Holy Spirit and He’ll make a way where He wants a way. I’ve never seen the Holy Spirit put something together so clearly… I had a sense of peace the entire time. Getting the leadership team together always brings me back to God’s faithfulness.
Q: WHAT DID GOT TEACH YOU THROUGH STARTING A DELIGHT CHAPTER?
A: You don’t have to feel qualified. You’re never going to feel ready; that’s what God wants. He wants you fully dependent on Him.
Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THE GIRL WHO FEELS CALLED TO START A CHAPTER BUT IS AFRAID SHE ISN’T THE GIRL FOR THE JOB?
A: Just do it. Nike. LOL! If it’s God’s will, it will be done. You don’t have to do anything; He will do it all for you.
Q: HOW ARE WOMEN ON YOUR CAMPUS BEING IMPACTED BY THIS MINISTRY?
A: The biggest thing for me was at our kickoff we did a breakout where we asked our members “why are you here?” They were all there because they were lacking genuine authentic community. It is such a struggle for us to see other women as competition instead of sisters. Everyone needed friendship and they were missing that… so was I... and that’s what we found. We all needed accountability in our faith too.
Remember how impactful your story can be. Let God take the things you want to hide from people and use them.
Q: WHAT PRAYER REQUESTS DO YOU HAVE?
A: [That God would] continue to bind them in vulnerability, [help them to know] they are qualified [and] there’s nothing the enemy can do to stop them.
We are in awe of the great work that God is doing through Hannah and the entire Delight chapter on KSU’s campus! We would invite you to join us in praying for them as their chapter grows and learns what it looks like to pursue the Lord in college!
